OWINGS MILLS, Md. (11/23/19) – Two second half goals, including the game-winner from
Max Acosta in the 88
th minute sent the Kean University men's soccer team to the championship match of the ECAC Tournament with a 2-1 victory over the top overall seed in Stevenson University on Saturday evening.
Felipe Lucas and Acosta scored for the Cougars who improve to 12-7-3 overall and advanced to Sunday's championship match against either Muhlenberg College or Widener University at 4:00 p.m.
Dylan Holy netted the lone goal for the Mustangs who finish their season at 14-7-3 overall.
After a scoreless first half in which Kean led on shots (13-7) and corner kicks (6-2), Stevenson struck first in the 60
th minute with a header goal from Holy for the 1-0 lead.
The Cougars responded with the game-tying goal in the 78
th minute, when Lucas stole the ball on a Mustangs throw-in and beat the same defender twice down the field. The sophomore ripped a shot from 15 yards out, which floated towards the near post and curved in for the score after the keeper decided not to make a play on the ball.
Kean notched the game-winner in the 88
th minute, when Acosta collected an over the top ball from
Christian Estremera in the box. The sophomore turned and fired towards the far post to send the Cougars to the ECAC championship.
Kean edged Stevenson on shots, 24-15 and 14-2 on corner kicks. Lucas tallied five shots, while Acosta recorded four and both
Daniel Calderon and
Alex Nicol tallied three apiece.
Dillon Konzelmann made five saves in the victory for Kean.

Peter-John Falloon and the Cougars will return to action tomorrow, Sun. Nov. 24th in the ECAC Championship match against either Muhlenberg College or Widener University at 4:00 p.m.
