UNION, N.J. (11/6/19) – Melissa Way tied the single season record for goals with 28 as the No. 9 Kean University field hockey team fell to No. 10 Rowan University, 4-2 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference semifinals on Wednesday evening.
Liz Fox notched two goals for the Profs who improve to 15-3 overall and advanced to Saturday's championship game against TCNJ at 1:00 p.m. Way and
Jenna Patrone scored for the Cougars who fall to 18-3 overall.
Rowan took a 2-0 lead in the first quarter on back-to-back goals in the 13
th and 14
th minutes. Kean finally got on the board, when Way notched her 28
th goal of the season on a
Ja'Carra Jackson pass as the Cougars trailed 2-1 in the 19
th minute.
The Profs answered just before halftime with a goal in the 29
th minute for the 3-1 advantage. The Cougars would score one more time when Patrone tapped the ball in off a Way shot, but Kean still trailed 3-2 in 47
th minute.
Rowan would net an insurance goal in the 55
th minute to seal the game for Kean.
Way and Patrone both tallied seven shots apiece, while
Erin Donnelly recorded three and both Jackson and
Lia DiPiazza took two apiece.
Belly Reynoso made two saves in 60 minutes of work in net.

Leslie LaFronz and the Cougars will have to wait and see if they have a strong enough resumè for the field hockey committee to earn an at-large bid into the NCAA tournament. The field will be announced on NCAA.com with a press release on Sunday, Nov. 10
