Women's Hoops Remains Undefeated in NJAC Play with Win Over Ramapo

Union, N.J. (12/11/19) – The Kean University women's basketball team remained undefeated in conference play with an 84-75 victory over Ramapo College on Wednesday evening.

Shannon McCoy led all players with 24 points while shooting 63% from the floor as Kean improved to 6-1 on the season and 4-0 in the NJAC.  The loss drops Ramapo to 8-2 this fall and 2-2 in conference play.

It was a back-and-forth affair early before the Cougars found a rhythm and pushed out to a seven point lead thanks to a trey from Sarah Olivero and layup from Casey Filiault.  The Roadrunners responded and quickly tied things up at 17-all on a Jenna Harsh swipe and later three-pointer.  The Cougars held a slight edge after 10 minutes (21-20).

The second quarter was more of the same as the teams tied and traded leads.  It was Harsh again who knotted things up at 36-all with just over two minutes to go in the half.  The score would remain that way at the break as neither team was able to convert along with four turnovers in the span.

Kean came out firing in the third quarter and took the lead for good early on a trey from Filiault, one of 11 for the Cougars on the night.  A three pointer from Cindy Foresta pushed the advantage out to double digits for the first time all night with 4:47 remaining in the third stanza.

Ramapo was able to get within four on two occasions early in the fourth quarter but the Cougars paced to the win.

Payce Lange finished with a double-double 17 points and 11 rebounds with four steals while Filiault registered 12 points.  For the Roadrunners, Samantha Rinaldi had a team-high 19 points.

Kean closes out their NJAC slate for the fall semester with a road trip to Rutgers-Camden on Saturday.
