CLAREMONT, Calif. (8/30/19) – Jesse Larkin collected 30 kills and 15 digs as the Kean University women's volleyball team took both matches on the opening day of the Pacific Coast Classic hosted at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges.
Kean 3, UW-Platteville 2 (14-25, 20-25, 25-23, 25-20, 15-10)
The Cougars (1-0) battled back from a two set deficit to take their very first match in the Golden State with the 3-2 victory over the Pioneers (1-1).
The offense and the defense were clicking for the Cougars as
Zoe Strozewski (17), Larkin (14) and
Cailyn Ross (11) all tallied double-digit kills, while
Kortnee Nelson (20)
Sedona Gaard (16) and
Michelle Froehlich (16) all tallied double digit digs in the back row. Strozewski's 17 kills proved to be a new career-high for the Illinois native.
Kean was locked in during the final three sets with attacking percentage's above .250 for all three sets and less than five errors in any of those sets.
Brianna Calvano handed out 44 assists, while Strozewski collected seven blocks.
Kean 3, Occidental 0 (25-17-, 25-16, 26-24)
Nelson added another 20 digs and Larkin put down 16 kills as the Cougars (2-0) remained unbeaten with a straight sets sweep of the Tigers (0-1).
The Cougars remained very efficient in this match as well, hitting .360 for the match and allowing only eight errors. Gaard totaled 10 kills, while Calvano collected 34 assists and 11 digs.
During the match, Calvano recorded her 2500
th career assist.
