Cougars Split Final Day in California

CLAREMONT, Calif. (8/31/19) – Jesse Larkin, Zoe Strozewski and Sedona Gaard each tallied double digit kills as the Kean University women's volleyball team split their matches with the University of Dallas and Pomona-Pitzer in the final day of the Pacific Coast Classic.

Kean 3, Dallas 0 (25-22, 25-21, 25-19)
The Cougars (3-0) collected their third straight victory with the straight sets sweep of the Crusaders (0-3) Strozewski (12), Gaard (11) and Larkin (11) all finished with double digit kills, while Brianna Calvano totaled 38 assists, eight digs and three blocks in the process.

Kean hit .379 for the match, including posting a .429 hitting percentage in the opening set with Strozewski, Gaard and Larkin all tallying four kills apiece. In the following two sets, Gaard and Strozewski each posted a five kill set.

Kortnee Nelson made it her third straight match with double-digit digs (15).

Pomona-Pitzer 3, Kean 0 (24-26, 20-25, 10-25)
The Sagehens (4-0) stopped the Cougars (3-1) three match-winning streak with a straight sets defeat of Kean. Larkin finished with 13 kills, while Calvano totaled 21 assists and Nelson collected 18 digs. The Cougars only hit .033 for the match and committed 28 errors.

Despite the loss, Kean out dug Pomona 64-58 with Amanda DeLio (12) and Gaard (11) posting double-digit digs as well.

Larkin was named to the All-Tournament Team.

Head Coach Don Perkins and the Cougars will return to action in New Paltz, N.Y. at the Hawks Invitational on Friday, Sept. 6th against SUNY New Paltz at 2:00 p.m. and Williams College at 4:00 p.m.
