GALLOWAY, N.J. (9/21/19) – A second half goal proved to be the difference as the Kean University men's soccer team dropped their New Jersey Athletic Conference opener to Stockton University, 3-2 on Saturday afternoon.
Ervin Gjeli scored the game-winner for the Ospreys who improve to 7-1-1 overall and 1-0 in the NJAC.
Alex Nicol notched a goal and an assist for the Cougars who fall to 5-3 overall and 0-1 in the NJAC.
Kean fell behind 2-0 after two goals in the first 30 minutes. The Cougars finally got on the scoreboard, when Nicol played a corner kick into the box and
Dylan Evande tapped it past the keeper to trail 2-1 in the 36th minute.
Kean would square everything up at 2-2 in the 42nd minute, when Nicol converted on a penalty kick. The contest remained 2-2 at halftime.
The game would remain tied at 2-2, until the 69th minute, when Gjeli collected the rebound of a missed penalty kick and punched it in for the game-winner. Kean had their chances late, but couldn't find the back of the net.
Despite the loss, the Cougars outshot the Ospreys (18-11); including 10-5 on goal, while holding the edge on corner kicks (9-5). Nicol tallied a game-high four shots, while
Felipe Lucas recorded three.
Dillion Konzelmann made two saves in 90 minutes of work in goal.
