Cougars Split Tri-Match Against Clark and No. 21 Babson

BABSON PARK, Mass. (9/21/19) – The Kean University women's volleyball team split a tri-match with Clark University and No. 21 Babson College at Babson on Saturday afternoon.

Kean 3, Clark 1
The Cougars (10-5) won their third straight match behind a career-high 19 kills, five blocks and a .471 hitting percentage from Jesse Larkin. Zoe Strozewski totaled 13 kills, while Sedona Gaard posted a double-double with 11 kills and 12 digs as Kean hit .232 in the four set victory over the Cougars (4-9).

After trading the first two sets, Kean pulled out the third set (27-25) with back-to-back kills by Larkin. The Cougars dominated the final set with a 25-12 victory, hitting .233 and holding Clark to just three kills.

Brianna Calvano tallied 44 assists, 11 digs, and five kills, while Kortnee Nelson (25) and Michelle Froehlich (13) both finished with double-digit digs.

No. 21 Babson 3, Kean 1
Strozewski tallied a team-high 12 kills as the Cougars (10-6) took a set from the nationally ranked Beavers (11-0) in the 3-1 loss. Kean was the first team to take a set from Babson in Staake Gymnasium since the 2017 season.  

Kayla Thornton totaled seven kills, while Larkin tallied six. Calvano finished with 29 assists and five digs, while Nelson collected 11 digs.

Nelson also moved into second place all-time on the career digs list at 1,369, surpassing Jennifer Bronowich ('98-'01). Also, Calvano is 29 assists away from 3,000 for her career.

Head Coach Don Perkins and the Cougars will return to action on Tues. Sept. 24th, hosting the Pioneers of William Paterson University at 7:00 p.m.
