Franklin, Mass. (9/28/19) – The Kean University football team exploded for 47 points as they defeated host Dean College by the final of 47-13 on Saturday afternoon in their last non-conference action of the fall.
Jessey Asare led the rushing unit with 145 yards and a touchdown while Anthony Broccoletti completed 10-of-16 passes for 179 yards and two TDs on the afternoon. Tyrae Taylor added 70 yards on the ground with two scores.
The Cougars (1-2) went right to work scoring on their first possession of the game as Asare took the first touch of the day for 38 yards, pushing Kean into Dean territory. Facing a third and long situation, Broccoletti found Kyle Rooney for a 22 yard strike as the Cougars pushed into the redzone. Taylor finished off the six play, 55 yard drive with a three yard dash to put Kean on top, 7-0.
In their first drive of the second quarter Donte Jamison gave the Cougars good field position with a 24 yard punt return. Teammate Myles Toppin took the first pass he saw 41 yards into the endzone for a 21 point advantage.
It was the defense's turn next as DeShawn Reed picked up a loose ball after Dimere Kyles' sack and marched down the field 35 yards for the touchdown (28-0).
The Cougars didn't stop there and on their next drive Broccoletti found Aubyn Bryan II for a 44 yard pickup and a 35-0 lead.
In the second half, Kean kept the pressure on as rookie Logan Matthews connected for two field goals of 26 yards each and Asare found the endzone with a 26 yard run to account for the Cougar scoring.
On defense, Reed finished with two fumble recoveries. Kyeon Taylor added three tackles and an interception for 55 yards.
The Cougars return home to face Christopher Newport University when they open NJAC play next Saturday.
