Cougars Roll in Third Straight Shutout

UNION, N.J. (9/7/19) – Melissa Way scored two and Jenna Patrone assisted on two as the Kean University field hockey team collected their third straight shutout with a 4-0 victory over Lebanon Valley College on Saturday afternoon.

Rachel Mills and Patrone each tallied a goal for the Cougars who improve to 3-1 overall. Danielle Alba recorded two shots for the Dutchmen who fall to 0-3 overall.

Patrone put the Cougars up 1-0 just a minute in as the senior dribbled through the defense and fired a shot in the back right corner. Kean increased their lead to 3-0 after Way went back-to-back on goals in just over a two minute span.

Way's first goal came off a Patrone feed, as the junior collected the ball turned and fired it past the keeper. The second goal was the result of a bad clear by the goalie, as Way intercepted the ball and fired a close range shot.

The Cougars added one more goal in the fourth, when Patrone ripped a shot that tipped off the stick of Mills for the score.

Kean edged Lebanon Valley on shots (14-5) and penalty corners (9-1). Mills, Patrone and Way all tallied three shots apiece for the Cougars. Belly Reynoso collected her third shutout of the season with three saves in 60 minutes of work. Jenna Flemings saw her first action of her college career in goal, playing the final minutes of the contest.

Head Coach Leslie LaFronz and the Cougars will return to action on Tuesday, Sept. 10th, hosting the Pacers of Marywood University at 7:30 p.m.
