Two Second Half Goals Down Cougars Against Salisbury in Seahawk Classic

ST MARY'S CITY, Md. (9/7/19) – Two second half goals downed the Kean University men's soccer team, 2-1, against Salisbury University at the Seahawk Classic hosted by St. Mary's College of Maryland on Saturday afternoon.

Luke Ahalt and Matthew Hawkins each notched a goal for the Sea Gulls who improve to 3-1 overall. Matthew Almeida scored the lone goal for the Cougars who fall to 3-1 overall.

Almeida gave Kean the 1-0 lead after receiving a pass from Fanor Arango about five yards outside the 18-yard box. The sophomore ripped a screamer past the keeper for the early advantage.  That goal would keep the Cougars in front until the 60th minute when Ahalt flicked the ball in the back of the net to square everything at 1-1.

That result held until the 78th minute, when a miscommunication between Cougar defenders' allowed a quick kick to sneak by for the eventual game-winner.

The Sea Gulls edged the Cougars on shots (13-9), while Kean edged Salisbury on corner kicks (10-9). Almeida led the team with three shots, while Alex Nicol tallied two and Dylan Evande, Calvin Carbajal, Nick Kovach and Brandon Grine all recorded a shot. Dillon Konzelmann suffered his first loss in net, despite making four saves in 90 minutes of work.

Head Coach Peter-John Falloon and the Cougars will return to action tomorrow, Sunday, Sept. 8, against the host Seahawks of St. Mary's College at 4:00 p.m.
