WAYNE, N.J. (1/11/20)- Jailen Jamison and
Nate Lyles combined for 33 of the Cougars 65 points as the Kean University men's basketball team dropped a New Jersey Athletic Conference contest to William Paterson University, 87-65 on Saturday afternoon.
Sean Smith scored 35 points and knocked down 11 triples for the Pioneers who improve to 7-7 overall and 3-4 in the NJAC. Lyles finished with 16 points, eight rebounds and two blocks for the Cougars who fall to 4-10 overall and 1-6 in the NJAC.
After trailing by just single digits in the first eight minutes, WPU finished off the opening stanza with a 25-11 run that propelled the hosts to a 41-25 halftime advantage. Smith scored 14 of his 17 first half points during the run, while Kean connected on only three field goals in the final 12 minutes.
The second half saw Kean shave the deficit down to 11 at different points, but couldn't crack single digits as Paterson continued to knock down three pointers at an extremely high clip. The Pioneers shot a staggering 83.3% from downtown in the second half as the halftime lead ballooned to 23 with 6:27 remaining.
Kendall Blount finished with nine points and four rebounds, while
Jared Latane totaled seven points and three rebounds.
