JERSEY CITY, N.J. (1/21/20) – Seth Russell and
Jared Ray both posted double digit kills as the Kean University men's volleyball team recorded its first victory of both the season and in the New Jersey Athletic Conference with a 3-1 decision over New Jersey City University on Tuesday evening.
Ray finished with 16 and Russell posted 13 for the Cougars who improve to 1-3 overall and 1-0 in the NJAC.
Jonathan Andrews totaled a team-high 13 kills for the Gothic Knights who fall to 0-1 overall and 0-1 in the NJAC.
Kean captured its first set of the season with a 25-20 victory. After being tied at 16-16, the Cougars closed out the set with an 8-2 run, including two kills from Ray and aces by
Zach Gerken and
Maxim Kostin.
After dropping set two, Kean used a 5-1 run midway through the third set to propel the Cougars to a 25-18 victory. Kean hit .400 while committing just three errors in the set win. The final set saw the Cougars put together a 5-2 run to finish off the match, while hitting .200 for an identical 25-18 victory.
Gerken finished with 32 assists, three aces, three block assists and three digs.
Duncan Beilke totaled three kills and
Jonathan Meyer collected six digs.
