PATCHOGUE, N.Y. (1/24/20) – Jared Ray recorded double digit kills for the second straight match as the Kean University men's volleyball team dropped a non-conference match to St. Joseph's College (LI), 3-0 on Friday evening.
Will Flohr totaled 14 kills and 14 digs for the Golden Eagles who improve to 5-0 overall. Ray finished with a season-high 18 kills for the Cougars who fall to 1-4 overall.
The opening set saw Kean trail by four, before rallying to tie everything at 21-21. Ray deposited three straight kills to propel the Cougars in front at 24-23, but St. Joseph's finished out the set on a 4-1 run. The middle set propelled the Golden Eagles in front with an 8-2 run after being tied at 11-11 to start. The run gave the home team enough momentum to hang on for the victory. The final set saw St. Joseph's use a mid-set run to propel themselves to the easy victory.
Despite losing the first two sets, Kean posted better hitting percentage's and committed less errors. For the match, the Cougars hit .189 and the Golden Eagles hit .140.
Seth Russell totaled 14 digs and five kills, while
Zach Gerken tallied four kills.
Zachary Noll handed out 30 assists, while
Jonathan Meyer collected 13 digs.
