Newark, N.J. (1/29/20) – Payce Lange led all players with 24 points as the Kean University women's basketball team topped host Rutgers-Newark by the final of 78-68 on Wednesday night.
Lange added six rebounds and six steals as the Cougars improved to 9-3 in conference play and 13-6 overall.
After an early see-saw battle, Kean turned a one point deficit into an eight point advantage with a quick 11-2 spurt as five different Cougars scored in the run. That short burst gave Kean the lead for good. Lange pushed the Kean lead out to 17 points in the second quarter with a three pointer with 3:44 to go (39-22). The Cougars entered the break ahead, 44-30.
Rutgers-Newark (3-16, 1-11 NJAC) pulled within eight on two separate occasions in the final 20 minutes, but that would be as close as they would come as the Cougars pulled away with the win.
Shannon McCoy registered 15 points and nine rebounds while Emily Dominguez collected 12 points, seven assists and four assists.
Kean returns to action on Saturday when they host Rutgers-Camden.
