Union, N.J. (1/8/20) – The Kean University women's basketball team remained perfect in conference play rallying late to defeat visiting Stockton University by the final of 69-66.
Trailing seven with 4:36 to go in the contest, the Cougars (10-3, 6-0 NJAC) chipped away while holding Stockton (5-7, 1-5 NJAC) scoreless. Kean regained the lead (67-66) on a three-pointer from Shannon McCoy with just over 20 seconds to go. The Ospreys called timeout and advanced the ball but couldn't find an open shot, forcing a turnover inside. That forced Stockton to foul and put Payce Lange on the line with eight seconds to go. She missed the first and made the second, giving Stockton one last opportunity late. The Ospreys again called a timeout, their last, to advance the ball. Two missed shots gave the Cougars the ball back with just over a second to go. Emily Dominguez made the front end of her free throws for one more point for what would be the final.
Kean jumped out of the gate and led by as many as 12 in the first quarter. But Stockton used a small burst at the end of the first period to cut the deficit to just three thanks to 7-0 run. The teams traded the advantage with Stockton holding a one point lead at the break (39-38).
The game remained a see-saw battle for the final 20 minutes as Kean pulled out their third straight win.
