UNION, N.J. (2/1/20) – Jailen Jamison finished with a career-high 28 points, seven rebounds and seven assists as the Kean University men's basketball team dropped a New Jersey Athletic Conference contest to Rutgers-Camden, 79-75 on Saturday afternoon.
Issac Destin posted a career-high 40 points and 12 rebounds for the Scarlet Raptors who improve to 7-13 overall and 4-9 in the NJAC.
Jared Latane totaled 21 points for the Cougars who fall to 5-15 overall and 2-11 in the NJAC.
Camden opened with a 19-7 run over the first nine minutes to take their largest lead of the game. Kean responded by closing out the opening stanza with a 25-14 run that put the Cougars back in front at 32-30 with 47 seconds remaining. Jamison scored eight points during the run, including the game tying layup with 1:21 remaining. Latane scored the final five Cougar points, including an old fashion three point play that gave Kean a slim 35-34 advantage at halftime.
The Cougars opened the second half with a 13-6 run that propelled Kean to a 47-40 lead with 14:30 remaining. Latane posted 11 points during the early second half run. Rutgers answered with a 10-2 run of their own to regain the lead at 50-47.
Kean and Camden traded buckets for the next six minutes before the Scarlet Raptors attempted to pull away with a 12-2 run that included eight points from Destin. Camden held the 72-64 advantage with 2:20 remaining. Jamison added another nine points in the final two minutes and was able to get the Rutgers lead down to three. This would be the closest Kean would get as Destin went 4-for-4 from the line in the final 30 seconds to seal the win for the visitors.
