ASHLAND, VA. (2/15/20) –
Jared Ray tallied a double-double with 25 kills and 10 digs as the Kean University men's volleyball team swept Randolph-Macon College, 3-0 in straight sets on Saturday.
Seth Russell finished with 10 kills and four digs for the Cougars who improve to 4-9 overall and 2-1 in the Continental Volleyball Conference.
Lee Olenyik totaled 11 kills and five digs for the Yellow Jackets who fall to 3-10 overall and 1-3 in the CVC.
Ray reached the 20 kill mark in back-to-back matches and for the third time this season as the rookie hit .550 with just three errors.
Kean hit .347 as a unit and held RMC to a .198 hitting percentage. The Cougars hit north of .250 across all three sets, including a .484 percentage in the 29-27 set one victory.
The opening set saw Ray post eight kills as Kean survived a late rally from the Yellow Jackets who were able to hold off set point. Kean led 24-19, before the home team went on a 7-1 run to jump in front at 26-25. Kean answered by closing the set with a 4-1 run that included a kill and an ace from Russell.
The middle set saw Ray put down 11 kills with just one error. After trailing 19-18, Kean used a 7-2 run to close out the set with Ray accounting for three kills.
The final set mirrored the second set as Kean trailed 22-21 when a timeout was called. The Cougars regrouped and scored the final four points of the match with kills by Russell and
Kevin Molina as well as an assisted block from
Leonel Maizonet and
Maxim Kostin.
Molina finished with six kills, three digs and three block assists, while
Zach Gerken handed out 34 assists and
Jonathan Meyer collected eight digs.
