Cougars Split Sunday Matinee with Misericordia and SUNY-Poly

UNION, N.J. (2/23/20) – Jared Ray and Seth Russell combined for 52 kills over two matches as the Kean University men's volleyball team split a tri-match with Misericordia University and SUNY-Poly on Sunday.

Misericordia 3, Kean 1
Russell and Ray combined for 47 kills as the Cougars (4-10) dropped a hard fought match to the Cougars of Misericordia (11-7).

Russell totaled 10 kills as Kean came up short in the 26-24 set one loss with Misericordia collecting the final two points.

Kean answered with a combined 13 kills from Ray and Russell and a .290 hitting percentage to take set two, 25-18.

Misericordia would take the final two sets with .192 and .200 hitting percentages while limiting Kean to a .088 and a .091 percentages.  

Zach Gerken recorded a double-double with 45 assists and 10 digs, while Jonathan Meyer collected 15 digs.

Kean 3, SUNY Poly 0
Duncan Beilke finished with 11 kills and six digs as the Cougars (5-10) bounced back to sweep the Wildcats (5-11) in straight sets.

Kean hit .341 for the match, including a .600 hitting percentage in the set one victory. The Cougars also posted double-digit kills in all three sets. The Cougars limited Poly to a .200 hitting percentage.

Kevin Molina finished with seven kills, while David Jones tallied five and Maxim Kostin finished with four. Luke Frankenfield totaled 15 assists and three aces in the victory.

Head Coach Charlie Ginex and the Cougars will return to action on Saturday, Feb. 29th, hosting a tri-match with Immaculata University and Ramapo College beginning at 12:00 p.m.
