Foresta’s Late Layup Propels Cougars over TCNJ on Senior Day

UNION, N.J. (2/15/20) – Cindy Foresta made a layup with six seconds remaining as the Kean University women's basketball team pushed its winning streak to four games with a 54-52 victory over the College of New Jersey on Senior Day.

Foresta finished with 15 rebounds and seven points for the Cougars who improve to 17-7 overall and 13-4 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference. Elle Cimilluca totaled 16 points and six rebounds for the Lions who fall to 15-9 overall and 12-5 in the NJAC.

The first half was a low scoring defensive battle that saw seven ties and five lead changes. The Cougars took a two point lead into halftime after two Shannon McCoy free throws and an Ashley Hunt triple in the final three minutes of the opening stanza.

The third quarter saw Kean extend their halftime lead to the largest of the game at 45-34 with a 22-13 run. Payce Lange and Sarah Olivero combined for 16 points during the run that put the Cougars in the driver's seat entering the fourth quarter.

The Lions roared back in the fourth with a 15-5 run that evened the contest at 52-52 with 23 seconds remaining. After a Cougar timeout, Emily Dominguez floated a pass to Foresta, who made the bucket through traffic for the two point lead. After a missed free throw, TCNJ failed to convert on a layup that would have sent the game into overtime.

Olivero finished with a career-high 19 points, eight rebounds and four steals. The sophomore scored 13 points in the second half, including knocking down a key three pointer with 2:56 remaining in the fourth. Lange tallied a double-double with 14 points and tied a career-high with 11 rebounds.

Foresta and Lange were both honored by the coaching staff for their hard work and dedication to the program prior to the contest.

Head Coach Mandy King and the Cougars will return to action in Glassboro, N.J. on Wednesday, Feb. 19th, against the Profs of Rowan University in the regular season finale at 6:00 p.m.
