UNION, N.J. (2/23/20) – The Kean University softball team improved to 4-0 after defeating Drew University and New York University in run-rule shortened games on Sunday.
Kean 12, Drew 2 (5 Inn.)
Julie Raba went 3-for-3 with four RBI's and two runs scored, while
Gabriella Fredette finished 2-for-3 with two runs scored as the Cougars (3-0) posted 12 runs on 10 hits in the victory over the Rangers (0-1).
After trailing 1-0 in the top half of the first, Kean answered with two runs in the bottom half of the inning from Raba. The sophomore smacked an RBI double and then crossed the plate on a wild pitch.
Raba took her hot bat into the third with a three-run RBI triple that scored
Maria Bonfanti,
Caroline Ratti and
Taryn DiGiacomo. Kean held a commanding 6-1 lead.
The Cougars stretched their lead to 12-1 in the fourth with an RBI single from
Hailey Sweeney and an RBI double from
Skylar Hengeveld.
Sweeney improved to 2-0 in the circle with a strikeout in four innings pitched.
Kean 8, NYU 0 (5 Inn.)
Ratti, Fredette,
Jenn Majorczak and
Julia Stasil all tallied two hits apiece as the Cougars (4-0) blanked the Violets (2-2).
Kean scored eight runs on 12 hits while holding NYU to just three hits.
The Cougars held a 4-0 lead after RBI's from Sweeney, Ratti, and Stasil. Kean plated another four runs in the bottom of the fifth with RBI's from Bonfanti, Ratti and Raba.
DiGiacomo struck out four batters in the complete-game victory.

th, against North Carolina Wesleyan at 12:00 p.m. and Randolph-Macon at 2:30 p.m. in the Grand Slam Triangle Classic hosted by William Peace University.
