Ratti Homers as Cougars Take Two on Opening Day of Grand Slam Triangle Classic

RALEIGH, N.C. (2/29/20) – Caroline Ratti recorded her 15th career homerun and went 3-for-7 at the dish with three RBI's on the afternoon as the Kean University softball team remains unbeaten with victories over North Carolina Wesleyan College and #12 Randolph-Macon College on the opening day of the Grand Slam Triangle Classic hosted by William Peace University.

Taryn DiGiacomo went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored, while Ratti, Julie Raba and Sarah Zengel tallied a hit and an RBI as the Cougars (5-0) battled back to defeat the Battling Bishops (4-1).

NCWC held a 2-0 lead entering the bottom of the fourth, when a Zengel RBI single put Kean on the board at 2-1. The Cougars would take the lead for good in the fifth with three straight RBI hits from Ratti, DiGiacomo and Raba for the 4-2 lead.

Hailey Sweeney struck out four batters and improved to 3-0 in the circle.

Ratti and Maria Bonfanti both finished with two hits and two RBI's apiece as the Cougars (6-0) remained unbeaten with a decision over the #12 Yellow Jackets (1-1-1).

Ratti's homerun to lead off the game propelled Kean to five runs on four hits and the 5-0 lead after half an inning. Zengel, Bonfanti and Ratti all tallied RBI's in the monster inning. RMC got a run on the board in the bottom half of the first, but the Cougars earned two more runs in the second courtesy of two bases loaded walks for a 7-1 advantage.

DiGiacomo tossed a complete game with four strikeouts to remain undefeated in the circle.

Head Coach Margie Acker and the Cougars will return to action tomorrow, Sunday, Mar. 1st, in Raleigh, N.C. against the University of Lynchburg at 9:30 a.m. and William Peace University at 12:00 p.m.
