Women’s Volleyball Sweeps Rutgers-Newark

NEWARK, N.J. (10/12/21) – Taylor Micheaux totaled 11 kills and posted a .588 hitting percentage as the Kean University women's volleyball team swept Rutgers-Newark, 3-0 in straight sets on Tuesday evening.

Kayla Thornton finished with eight kills and a .444 hitting percentage for the Cougars who improve to 10-9 overall and 3-2 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference. Alexa Rivera posted a double-double with 10 kills and 12 digs for the Scarlet Raiders who fall to 4-10 overall and 1-4 in the NJAC.

In set one, Kean used a late 8-1 run to pull away for the 25-18 victory. Thornton and Morgan Hall each tallied three kills apiece as the Cougars hit. 194.

In set two, the Cougars were sparked by an 11-3 run that included Hall serving for eight straight points. Micheaux, Anne Beckemeyer, and Thornton combined for 12 kills on 24 swings with no errors. Kean hit .324 in the 25-18 victory.

The Cougars capped off the night with a .344 hitting percentage as Micheaux added another four kills in the 25-13 set three victory. Kean used a 13-1 run that included Sedona Gaard serving for five straight points and Hall serving for another eight straight points.

Beckemeyer finished with nine kills, four digs and three blocks, while Ashley Smith totaled five kills and five digs. Kylie Brua totaled 27 assists, seven digs and two kills, while Gaard collected 15 digs.

Head Coach Don Perkins and the Cougars will return to action on Thursday, Oct. 14th, hosting the Gothic Knights of New Jersey City University at 7:00 p.m.
