UNION, N.J. (10/14/21) – Anne Beckemeyer totaled nine kills and posted a .467 hitting percentage as the Kean University women's volleyball team swept New Jersey City University, 3-0 in straight sets on Thursday evening.
Taylor Micheaux finished with nine kills for the Cougars who improve to 11-9 overall and 4-2 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference.
Xarial Chandler totaled seven kills and six digs for the Gothic Knights who fall to 11-6 overall and 1-5 in the NJAC.
In set one, Kean used a 9-1 run to rally from a five point deficit (9-4) to a three point lead at 15-12. The Cougars closed the set with a 7-3 run as Beckemeyer tallied four kills in the 25-21 victory.
In set two, Micheaux and Beckemeyer combined for seven kills as an 8-1 mid set run gave Kean enough breathing room to hang on for the 25-20 victory.
In set three, Kean closed out the match with a 17-3 run that propelled the Cougars from a 13-8 deficit to the 25-17 victory. Kean hit a match high .179 in the final set with Micheaux and
Kylie Brua tallying three kills apiece.
Ashley Smith finished with eight digs, four kills and four blocks assists, while Brua totaled 24 assists, six digs, four kills and three block assists.
Kayla Thornton tallied four kills and six block assists, while
Amanda DeLio collected 18 digs.

Don Perkins and the Cougars will return to action on Tuesday, Oct. 19th, in Camden, N.J. against the Scarlet Raptors of Rutgers-Camden at 7:00 p.m.
