EWING, N.J. (10/16/21) – A goal in each half propelled the #4 Kean University field hockey team to a 2-0 shutout victory over the #13 College of New Jersey in a New Jersey Athletic Conference contest on Saturday afternoon.
Megan Keeney and
Lia DiPiazza both scored for the Cougars who improve to 14-1 overall and 2-1 in the NJAC.
Dani Britton made six saves for the #13 Lions who fall to 8-4 overall and 2-2 in the NJAC.
The Cougars scored in the opening minute as Keeney tapped in a
Jordan Thompson shot during a penalty corner situation for the 1-0 lead. The rest of the half remained scoreless with both sides tallying three shots apiece.
The second half saw Kean add an insurance goal in the 53
rd minute when DiPiazza scored during another penalty corner.
Laura Stump inserted the ball to the fifth year senior who made one move and blasted it home on the right side.
Despite the victory, TCNJ led on shots (19-9), shots on goal (11-8) and penalty corners (13-6).
DiPiazza recorded a team-high four shots, while Keeney tallied two.
Jenna Flemings improved to 12-1 in goal with 10 saves in 60 minutes of work.
