DiPiazza Ties Single Season Record in Victory over William Paterson

UNION, N.J. (10/23/21) – Lia DiPiazza tied the single-season record for assists with 15 as the #5 Kean University field hockey team defeated William Paterson University, 3-2 in a New Jersey Athletic Conference contest on Saturday evening.

DiPiazza scored and assisted on a goal for the Cougars who improve to 16-1 overall and 4-1 in the NJAC. Abigail Viola scored twice for the Pioneers who fall to 8-7 overall and 1-4 in the NJAC.

DiPiazza had a hand in both first-half goals as the fifth-year senior assisted on a Megan Keeney goal in the 15th minute and scored in the 20th minute as Kean led 2-0 at halftime.

After Paterson cut the advantage in half with a goal in the 36th minute, Maddison Gonzales put Kean in front at 3-1 with a Taylor Hutchins assisted goal in the 44th minute. The Pioneers scored one more time in the fourth which cut Kean's lead to 3-2 with four minutes to play.

The Pioneers never found the equalizer during the final four minutes and the Cougars hung on for the victory.
