William Paterson Pushes Past Football

Wayne, N.J. (10/30/21) – William Paterson University took advantage of turnovers and had two big plays to push past the Kean University football team by the final of 20-6 on Saturday afternoon.

Logan Matthews accounted for all of Kean's points as he connected on 22 and 48 yard field goals.

Matthews put Kean on the board with a 3-0 lead early in the second quarter as he chipped a 22 yarder.  The Pioneers (4-4, 2-2 NJAC) took the lead for good as Spencer Lee found Taz Burton at midfield and he took it the rest of the way for a 77 yard touchdown reception with 12:28 to go in the quarter.

William Paterson forced a turnover with Alajuwon Bell's sack and seven plays later found the endzone with a 12 yard catch from William Frese.  The Pioneers added to their lead with a 23 yard field goal to close out the first half (17-3).

It was Kean's turn in the third quarter as Matthews booted a 48 yard field goal with 9:46 on the clock.  JoJo Kirby's interception led to three points later in the drive by Ronald Alvarez with a 34 yarder for what would be the final (20-6).

Dante Capozzoli led the defensive unit with 12 tackles, 1.5 for a loss and half sack and a quarterback hurry.  Kyeon Taylor added four tackles, a hurry and an interception.

The Cougars rest up next week with a bye and close out the season on November 13th for Senior Day against Montclair State.
