UNION, N.J. (10/5/21) – Lia DiPiazza and
Ja'Carra Jackson each tallied a goal as the #3 Kean University field hockey team established a new program record for the longest winning streak at 18 games with a 2-0 shutout victory over Ramapo College in their New Jersey Athletic Conference opener on Tuesday evening.
Laura Stump assisted on a goal for the Cougars who improve to 13-0 overall and 1-0 in the NJAC.
Michelle Kukan made 12 saves for the Roadrunners who fall to 9-3 overall and 1-1 in the NJAC.
Kean notched both goals in the opening stanza as the Cougars held a 2-0 advantage at halftime.
Kean tallied their first goal in the sixth minute when Stump fed the ball into DiPiazza during a penalty corner situation. The fifth year senior blasted the ball passed the keeper for the early lead. The Cougars notched their second goal in the 18
th minute; when Jackson scored on a loose ball that came off a goalkeeper save.
DiPiazza totaled eight shots, while
Jordan Thompson tallied seven. The Cougars defensive unit of
Mia Hernandez,
Taylor Hutchins and
Krista O'Grady held the Roadrunners leading scorer
Victoria Docherty in check all evening. Docherty, who came into tonight's game leading the NJAC in goals at 18 and averaging 3.83 shots per game, was held to just one shot.
Jenna Flemings improved to 11-0 in goal and made five saves in the victory.
