Union, N.J. (11/12/21) – The Kean University women's basketball team led wire-to-wire as they picked up their first win of the season by defeating Baruch College, 83-47 in the first day of the Kean Classic.
Baruch (1-1) was led by Mia Castillo who just missed a double-double with nine points and 12 rebounds.
Kean (1-2) advances to play Stevens Institute of Technology in the championship at 3 p.m. while the Bearcats will face Eastern Connecticut State University in the consolation at 1 p.m.
It took some time for both teams to get their feet wet as Kean scored the game's first point almost three minutes into the action. The Cougars found their rhythm in the second quarter and finished the half on a 21-4 run to sail into the break with a 40-15 advantage.
Kean led by as many as 45 in the third quarter as Shannon McCoy connected on a trey (64-19) and held the game's highest point differential in the fourth quarter (82-33) as Maddison Vaughn provided a layup.
The Cougars entire active bench saw action in the contest. Brittany Graff led all players with 18 points while McCoy was right behind with 17 (as well as seven rebounds). Suzy Ndandji came off the bench and added four points, five rebounds and four assists in 14 minutes.
