ALFRED, N.Y. (11/12/21) – Ashley Smith and
Morgan Hall each tallied 12 kills apiece as the top seed Kean University women's volleyball team advanced to the ECAC Championship with a 3-1 victory over fourth seed and host Alfred State College on Friday evening.
Anne Beckemeyer and
Taylor Micheaux each recorded eight kills apiece for the Cougars who improve to 17-12 overall and advance to face third seed Rutgers-Camden in the title game on Saturday.
Kiara Perkins totaled 15 kills for the Pioneers who finish their season at 18-4 overall.
After dropping the first set, Kean took the final three sets by 25-19, 25-15 and 25-20 scores. The Cougars held the Pioneers below a .150 hitting percentage over the final three sets, including a -.026 percentage in the third set.
Kylie Brua totaled 31 assists and nine digs, while
Sedona Gaard finished with 22 digs and four aces.
Amanda DeLio added 11 digs in the victory.
The Cougars are looking for their second ECAC title after capturing the first in 2013. Kaitlyn Hansen finished with 11 kills and seven blocks in a 3-0 sweep of Elmira College in the title game on Nov. 16
th, 2013. Hansen was named the Tournament Most Outstanding Player.
