UNION, N.J. (11/3/21) – Head Coach
Leslie LaFronz notched her 200
th career victory as the second seed Kean University Field Hockey team advanced to the New Jersey Athletic Conference Championship game with a 2-1 double overtime victory over third seed the College of New Jersey on Wednesday evening.
Ja'Carra Jackson scored the game-winner for the Cougars who improve to 19-1 overall and advance to Saturday's NJAC Championship game against Rowan.
Kayla Cichlar scored for the Lions who fall to 11-5 overall.
After a scoreless first half, Kean scored in the opening minute of the second stanza when
Megan Keeney blasted a shot just inside the circle for the 1-0 lead.
TCNJ evened the contest at 1-1 in the 56
th minute when Cichlar tapped in a
Rayhanah Ahmed pass.
The Lions had an opportunity to seal the game when a penalty stroke was called in the 66
th minute.
Jess Hatch was elected to take the stroke, but pulled the ball high and wide to the left.
Jackson would tally the game-winner in the 71
st minute of the second overtime as Keeney fed the ball into the circle and the senior deposited in the right corner.
The shots were even (14-14), while TCNJ led on shots on goal (12-10) and Kean led on penalty corners (18-14).
Jackson tallied three shots, while
Morgan Stump,
Jordan Thompson,
Jorja Hibschman and Keeney all tallied two shots apiece.
The Cougars will make their second NJAC Championship game appearance after reaching the title game as the top seed in 2017.

th, against the top seed Profs of Rowan University for the NJAC championship game beginning at 6:00 p.m.
