UNION, N.J. (11/8/21) – Letrell West dropped a double-double with 24 points and 10 rebounds as the Kean University men's basketball team coasted to a 87-46 victory over Purchase College in the Season opener on Monday evening.
Patrick Strzala finished with 13 points and five assists for the Cougars who improve to 1-0 overall.
Justin Mason totaled 15 points for the Panthers who fall to 0-1 overall.
Kean shot 50% from the floor in the opening stanza as the Cougars used a big run to break the game wide open. After being tied 9-9 with 13:54 remaining, Kean used a 28-10 run to take a 37-19 lead with just under three minutes to play. Strzala tallied all 13 of his points during the run as the Cougars held a 46-21 lead at halftime.
The second half was more of the same as Kean posted a 46.7% shooting percentage and extended their lead to at least 40 points.
Nate Lyles finished with 12 points and five rebounds, while
JD Daniels totaled nine points, six rebounds and two assists.
Jailen Jamison tallied five points, five assists and four steals, while
Justin Singh-Smith recorded five points and three rebounds.
