Union, N.J. (12/11/21) – The Kean University women's basketball team closed out the fall portion of their schedule with a 68-65 win over Ramapo College in NJAC action on Saturday afternoon.
The win improves the Cougars to 4-1 in the NJAC with a 6-5 mark overall. The loss drops Ramapo to 5-3 and 2-3 in conference play.
The Roadrunners got an early lead but Kean was able to chip away and took the lead for good on a fast break trey from Sarah Olivero (13-9). The Cougars closed out the first quarter with another rainbow from Olivero to push the lead out to double digits (26-16). Kean had their largest lead of the day (15 points) in the second quarter with a Kayla Anderson layup with 2:30 to go in the first half.
Ramapo did not go away and despite being down double-digits for most of the second half, closed the deficit to five points with 2:17 to go with a three-pointer from Bridget Cahill (62-57). Neither team was able to score for almost another two minutes before the teams traded buckets with 19 seconds left on the clock. Free throws down the stretch sealed the win for Kean.
Olivero led the way with a game-high and career-high 23 points, with six three-pointers on the night. She added five rebounds and four assists. Anderson finished with a double-double 13 points and 12 rebounds while Shannon McCoy added 11 points and seven rebounds.
Jada Thompson led Ramapo with 20 points in 29 minutes.
Kean enjoys a nice break and returns to game-action on January 3, 2022 when they travel to Drew University.
