Late Second Half Run Downs Men’s Basketball Against TCNJ

EWING, N.J. (2/19/21)- Nate Lyles finished with a career-high 21 points and eight rebounds as a late second half run downed the Kean University men's basketball team against the College of New Jersey, 74-64 on Friday evening.

PJ Ringel totaled 13 points, 12 rebounds and eight assists for the Lions who improve to 5-0 overall and 5-0 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference. Mike DelSantro knocked down four triples and finished with 15 points for the Cougars who fall to 1-4 overall and 1-4 in the NJAC.

DelSantro scored 12 of his 15 points in the opening 14 minutes of the contest as the junior knocked down three triples to propel the Cougars to a 27-24 lead with 6:41 remaining. TCNJ closed out the half on a 16-9 run to hold a 40-35 lead at halftime.

The Lions opened the second stanza by extending their lead to eight at 48-40. Kean responded with a 17-9 run that gave the Cougars a 57-55 advantage with 8:10 remaining. JD Daniels and Lyles combined for nine points during the run that gave Kean their first lead of the game.

TCNJ closed the contest with a 17-5 run that gave the Lions their largest lead of the game at 72-59 with 57 seconds remaining. Jailen Jamison and Lyles both connected on layups as Kean got back five points before the final buzzer sounded.

Jamison finished with 13 points, 10 rebounds, six assists and four steals while Daniels scored 11.

Head Coach David Turco and the Cougars will return to action tomorrow, Saturday, Feb. 20th, in Union, N.J. against the Lions of the College of New Jersey at 1:00 p.m.
