NEWARK, N.J. (2/27/21) – Shannon McCoy became the 21
st player in program history to score 1,000 career points as the Kean University women's basketball team swept a home and home series with Rutgers-Newark, 91-69 in their regular season finale on Saturday afternoon.
McCoy finished with 24 points and knocked down six triples for the Cougars who improve to 2-6 overall and 2-6 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference.
Ebony Odom Barnes collected a double-double with 18 points and 13 rebounds for the Scarlet Raiders who fall to 2-4 overall and 2-4 in the NJAC.
The junior needed 14 points coming into today's contest sitting at 986 career points. She reached the milestone with the Cougars first basket of the second quarter as the Barnegat native connected on a three pointer off an assist from
Brittany Graff.
Prior to that, Kean was already in the driver's seat as the Cougars closed out the opening stanza with a 27-2 run that propelled them to a 32-10 advantage. McCoy scored 11 and
Sarah Olivero chipped in with nine as the Cougars shot 57.1% from the floor and 63.6% from downtown.
Kean's hot shooting carried over to the second quarter as the Cougars connected on a team record 14 three pointers in the first half alone to hold a 61-36 lead at halftime.
The second half saw Kean continue to build on their first half advantage as the team established new records in three pointers made (19) and three pointers attempted (41). The previous record for three pointers made was 12 in the 106-67 victory over Lehman College on Nov. 20
th, 2007. The previous record for three pointers attempted was 40 in the 83-79 double-overtime victory against the University of Lynchburg on Nov. 17
th, 2018.
McCoy finished the game at 1,010 points and moved into 20
th all-time passing

In addition to McCoy, Graff finished with 15 points and eight rebounds, while Olivero totaled 12 points and five rebounds.
Shahd Badeer tallied seven points, 10 rebounds and four steals, while
Olivia Nilsen totaled nine points.
