Jersey City, N.J. (2/6/21) – The Kean University women's basketball team dropped their second straight to start the season by falling to host New Jersey City University, 79-42, on Saturday afternoon.
Olivia Nilsen led the Cougars with 10 points on the afternoon off the bench.
The Gothic Knights (2-0, 2-0 NJAC) got things going with two treys down the stretch in the first quarter to pull out to a nine point advantage (15-6). The Cougars (0-2, 0-2 NJAC) pulled back within four on two occasions in the second stanza, both on buckets from rookie Brittany Graff. A late three pointer extended the lead for NJCU at the break, 27-18.
NJCU came out shooting in the third period, extending their lead out to 20+ points to pull away with the win.
Kean's Shannon McCoy finished with seven points, five rebounds and three steals as 16 players saw action in the contest. Damaris Rodriguez and Dayjah Anderson both had 20+ points on the afternoon for NJCU.
The Cougars return to action on Friday when they travel to Montclair State University.
