Late Goal Lifts Field Hockey Past Stockton

UNION, N.J. (3/12/21) – Ja'Carra Jackson scored the game-winner in the 54th minute as the Kean University field hockey team remained unbeaten with a 2-1 victory over Stockton University on Friday evening.

Jackson and Morgan Stump scored for the Cougars who improve to 2-0 overall. Madison Dancisin tallied a goal for the Ospreys who fall to 0-1 overall.

Kean opened the scoring on the evening, when Stump notched her first goal of the season on a Lia DiPiazza shot that the sophomore tipped home for the 1-0 lead in the 9th minute. Stockton scored just before halftime to even everything at 1-1.

After a scoreless third quarter, Kean broke through with the go-ahead goal in the 54th minute.  Jackson controlled the ball, after an initial shot, and blasted it past the keeper for the 2-1 advantage.

The Cougars led on shots (29-6), shots on goal (19-3) and penalty corners (16-7). DiPiazza finished with seven shots, while Jackson and Stump tallied six apiece.

Belly Reynoso made two saves in 60 minutes of work.

Head Coach Leslie LaFronz and the Cougars will return to action in Montclair, N.J. on Wednesday, Mar. 17th, against the Red Hawks of Montclair State University at 7:00 p.m.
