Field Hockey Remains Unbeaten with Shutout of Montclair State in NJAC opener

MONTCLAIR, N.J. (3/17/21) – Jorja Hibschman notched two goals as the Kean University field hockey team remained unbeaten with a 4-0 shutout victory over Montclair State University in their New Jersey Athletic Conference opener on Wednesday evening.

Morgan Stump added two assists for the Cougars who improve to 3-0 overall and 1-0 in the NJAC. Lauren Pickul recorded 14 saves for the Red Hawks who fall to 0-2 overall and 0-1 in the NJAC.

Kean opened the scoring on the evening with a goal just before halftime. Hibschmann controlled a save by Pickul and fired it home for the 1-0 lead in the 26th minute. The Cougars held a 6-1 advantage on shots entering the intermission.

The second half saw Kean add three more goals and pepper another 15 shots. Stump notched her first assist in the 35th minute as the sophomore hit the ball from outside the circle and Lia DiPiazza tipped it in at the near post.

Kean tallied a goal nearly a minute later as Peyton Mann took the ball from a defender at 20 yards out. The sophomore drove down the left side and blasted it past the keeper for the 3-0 lead in the 37th minute.

Hibschmann scored just before the final buzzer as Stump took a shot from the top right of the circle and the freshman tipped it in near the right post

DiPiazza recorded five shots, while Hibschmann tallied four. Mann finished with three shots, while Stump and Krista O'Grady each notched two apiece.

Belly Reynoso tallied a save in 60 minutes of work.

Kean dominated MSU on shots (21-1), shots on goal (18-1) and penalty corners (8-0).

Head Coach Leslie LaFronz and the Cougars will return to action on Tuesday, Mar. 23rd, hosting the Ospreys of Stockton University at 7:30 p.m.
