JERSEY CITY, N.J. (3/13/21) – Sedona Gaard and
Kayla Thornton both recorded double-digit kills as the Kean University women's volleyball team sweep New Jersey City University, 3-0 in straight sets on Saturday evening.
Gaard finished with 12 kills, nine digs and three aces for the Cougars who improve to 2-2 overall and 2-2 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference.
Taylor Coriolan totaled five kills and five digs for the Gothic Knights who fall to 1-3 overall and 1-3 in the NJAC.
Gaard tallied six kills on eight swings in the opening set as Kean started the match on a 7-2 run and extended it to 11-4 on a
Michelle Froehlich kill and a
Britni Jaskot ace. Thornton and
Morgan Hall each posted three kills apiece as the Cougars hit .314 in the 25-15 set one victory.
Kean spread around the offense in the second set as
Sian Seeger, Gaard, Thornton,
Ashley Smith and
Kailey Fawns all notched at least two kills apiece in the 25-17 victory. The Cougars were tied 3-3 early, before an 11-2 run put Kean in control at 14-5.
Gaard, Thornton and Hall combined for 13 kills as Kean hit a match-high .457 in the 25-15 set three victory. The Gothic Knights battled with the Cougars for the first 11 points, but Kean closed out the match and the set with an 11-2 run.
Smith and Hall both finished with eight kills apiece while
Kylie Brua handed out 20 assists. Froehlich totaled 10 digs, while
Amanda DeLio collected nine.
The Cougars are now 11-0 versus NJCU since 2010.
