UNION, N.J. (3/30/21) – Gabriella Fredette finished 4-for-6 with a grand slam, five RBI's, three doubles and three runs scored as the #8 Kean University softball team remained unbeaten with a non-conference doubleheader sweep of Stockton University on Tuesday afternoon.
Kean 6, Stockton 2
Fredette went a perfect 3-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored; while
Maria Bonfanti finished 2-for-3 with an RBI as a big first inning helped the Cougars (9-0) put away the Ospreys (0-3).
Kean notched four runs on five hits in the bottom of the first as the Cougars led 4-0. The inning was highlighted by RBI's from Fredette,
Nicole Vassallo and Bonfanti.
Taryn DiGiacomo pushed her scoreless streak to 25 innings, but the senior had that streak snapped with a two-run homer to left in the third. Stockton cut the lead in half at 4-2 entering the bottom half of the inning.
The Cougars added insurance runs in the fifth, when
Maddie Carlson recorded an RBI ground out that scored
Julie Raba and Fredette crossed the dish on a throwing error.
DiGiacomo struck out seven batters and improved to 5-0 in the complete game victory.
Kean 10, Stockton 0 (5 Inn.)
Paige Metz went 2-for-2 with five RBI's and two runs scored, while Fredette finished 1-for-3 with a grand slam, four RBI's and a run scored as the Cougars (10-0) held the Ospreys (0-4) scoreless in the night cap.
Kean tallied five runs in the first as Fredette posted her first career homerun with a grand slam that scored Raba,
Jenn Majorczak and Metz. After the Cougars batted around the order, Metz earned an RBI after being hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. Kean held a 5-0 advantage.
Metz wasn't done as the junior belted her second career homerun with a two-run shot in the third and a two RBI double in the fourth. Kean increased their lead to 10-0, which ended the game on a mercy rule.
Heather Clevenger struck out five batters and only allowed two hits in the complete game victory.
Also of note, Head Coach
Margie Acker now stands at 493 career victories after today's sweep.
