12 Cougars Tally a Point as Men’s Lacrosse Defeats Centenary in CSAC Opener

HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. (4/2/21) – 12 different Cougars tallied a point as the Kean University men's lacrosse team defeated Centenary University, 16-4 in their Colonial States Athletic Conference opener on Friday afternoon.

Connor Batjer finished with four points on three goals and one assist for the Cougars who improve to 3-0 overall and 1-0 in the CSAC. Brandon Casey totaled two points on two goals for the Cyclones who fall to 0-2 overall and 0-1 in the CSAC.

The Cougars opened the contest with nine unanswered goals to hold a 9-0 advantage at halftime. Batjer tallied all four points in the opening stanza, while Brady Moore posted two goals and two assists before the break.

The first half also saw Anthony Porter, Dean Gillette, Nick Fischetti, George Capria and Gregory Castor all record goals for the Cougars.

After Centenary opened the second half with a score, goals by Capria, Noah Costanzo and Danny Bill propelled Kean to a 12-1 lead after three quarters of play.

In the fourth, two goals apiece by Anthony Leone and Costanzo extended the Cougars lead to 16-1 with 3:35 remaining. The Cyclones got three goals back, scoring a trio in the final 90 seconds.

On faceoffs, Nicholas Moffa went 12-for-16 with 10 groundballs and a caused turnover.

On defense, Castor totaled six groundballs and two caused turnovers, while Matt Palmieri finished with five groundballs and four caused turnovers. Corey Finnegan totaled two groundballs and two caused turnovers, while Gillette posted five groundballs and a caused turnover.

In goal, Thomas Francy, Devin Reppert and Michael Yukas combined for 60 minutes of work with five saves.

Kean edged Centenary on shots (61-15), shots on goal (41-7), groundballs (57-25), clears (19-15) and faceoffs (13-11).

Head Coach Shelley Sheiner and the Cyclones will return to action in Rosemont, Pa. on Saturday, Apr. 10th against the Ravens of Rosemont College at 1:00 p.m.
