UNION, N.J. (4/20/21) – 19 different Cougars recorded a point as the Kean University men's lacrosse team blanked Keystone College, 22-0 in "Connor's Game" for Autism Awareness on Tuesday evening.
Dean Gillette totaled six points on four assists and two goals for the Cougars who improve to 5-1 overall and 3-1 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference.
Sam Lepore made 15 saves for the Giants who remain winless at 0-5 overall and 0-5 in the CSAC.
Kean scored 11 goals in the first 15 minutes, including all six points from Gillette.
Brady Moore notched two goals, while
Kyle Ryder,
Anthony Porter,
Andrew Richardson,
Michael Shapiro,
Dante Magliano and
Tommy Pellegrino each tallied a goal in the opening quarter.
The Cougars added five more in the second with scores by
George Capria,
Cormac McCabe, Porter, Richardson and Pellegrino to take a commanding 16-0 lead into halftime. In the third, goals from
Anthony Azara,
Alex Hufford,
Matthew Schwartz, and Richardson increased the Cougars advantage to 21-0. In the four,
Trevor Foss added one more goal to cap off Kean's scoring for the evening.
On faceoffs,
Max Stevens went a perfect 10-for-10 with eight groundballs, while
Nicholas Moffa finished 9-for-10 with five groundballs.
On defense,
Jonathan Duffy totaled seven groundballs and a caused turnover, while
Drew Campenella and
Tyler Brookes both tallied three groundballs and two caused turnovers.
In goal,
Thomas Francy,
Devin Reppert and
Michael Yukas combined for 60 minutes and one save.
Tonight's contest was designated "Connor's Game" in honor of
Connor Sgaramella, who is the son of Associate Athletic Director
Jay Sgaramella and has been diagnosed with Autism. April is Autism Awareness Month and the Cougars would like to remind everyone that Autism is about love, hope and acceptance.
