UNION, N.J. (8/4/21) – The Kean University athletic department has announced its 2020-21 End of Year Awards.
In two new categories, junior
Zach Noll of the Men's Volleyball team has earned the department's highest GPA and senior
Steven Zarzycki of the Men's Volleyball team has been named the Comeback Player of the Year. Zarzycki is a stage 3-4 cancer survivor and returned to the court this season to play in 12 matches.
Senior
Michael Shapiro of the Men's Lacrosse team earns the Hoffman Memorial Award. The honor is presented to the senior student-athlete whose enthusiasm for athletics and spirit on the playing field best exemplifies Kean Hall of Famer Andrew Hoffman, a former men's lacrosse and football player.
Senior
Maddy Leigh of the Women's Lacrosse team and senior
Ian Capp of the Men's Volleyball team have been named the Kean Scholar-Athlete Award winners.

Leigh totaled six points on five goals and one assist in eight games played. The Springvale, Maine native tallied a 3.87 GPA in Biology Cell and Molecular Option.
Capp became the first three-time All-American in program history. The Mechanicsburg, Pa. native totaled 118 assists, 78 points, 45 kills, 43 digs, 27 aces and 10 blocks over six matches. The setter was an AVCA All-Region selection, earned CVC Setter of the Year honors, a CVC first team selection, earned NJAC Defensive Player of the Year honors, and an NJAC first team selection. A CoSIDA All-District selection, he tallied a 3.58 GPA in Exercise Science.
Finally, Two All-Americans were honored with the D'Angola Award, the department's highest honor. The D'Angola Award recognizes outstanding individual performance within the team concept that contributes to the enhancement of the team, the department of athletics and Kean University.
Junior
Shannon McCoy of the Women's Basketball team has been named the female D'Angola Award winner, while sophomore
Jared Ray of the Men's Volleyball team was named the male D'Angola Award winner.
McCoy was named a WBCA All-American, a Division III All-MET Team selection and an NJAC First Team selection after averaging 14.2 points, 5.4 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 1.2 steals per game over 10 contests. A CoSIDA All-District selection, she became the 21
st player in program history to reach 1,000 career points.
Ray became just the third first team All-American in program history. The Phoenixville, Pa. native totaled 213.5 points, 194 kills, 69 digs and 20 blocks over 12 matches played. The outside hitter was an AVCA All-Region Selection, a CVC first team selection, and a NJAC first team selection.
