UNION, N.J. (9/12/21) – Four different Cougars tallied a goal as the #10 Kean University field hockey team dispatched #13 the University of Lynchburg, 4-1 in their home opener on Sunday afternoon.
Lia DiPiazza scored and assisted on a goal for the Cougars who remain unbeaten at 5-0 overall. Kessa Romero notched a goal for the Hornets who fall to 1-3 overall.
Kean scored two goals in the first half and held a 2-0 advantage at intermission. Mann scored in the eighth minute with a close-range tap-in that came off a goalkeeper save from an initial shot by the junior.
DiPiazza scored in the 26
th minute after faking a defender and ripping a shot from just inside the circle.
In the second half, Kean added insurance goals in the fourth from
Megan Keeney and Jordan Thompson.
Keeney scored in the 47
th minute with a screamer shot that was set up by a DiPiazza feed. Thompson scored in the 54
th minute when the Kentucky native dribbled through the Hornets' defense and beat the keeper one-on-one.
DiPiazza tallied five shots, while
Ja'Carra Jackson, Thompson and Mann each totaled four apiece.
Jenna Flemings and
Belly Reynoso combined for three saves in 60 minutes.
