Women’s Volleyball Falls in Doubleheader to Wesleyan (CT)

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. (9/25/21) – Taylor Micheaux totaled 20 kills over two matches as the Kean University women's volleyball team dropped a doubleheader to Wesleyan University on Saturday afternoon.

Match 1: Wesleyan (CT) 3, Kean 1
Micheaux totaled 16 kills and six digs, while Kayla Thornton tallied 11 kills as the Cougars (5-7) captured a set in the 3-1 loss to the Cardinals (6-1). Ashley Smith finished with eight kills and three aces, while Julia Vacca totaled seven kills and three block assists. Gwen Hangey recorded a career-high 42 assists, while Sedona Gaard recorded a career-high 19 digs.

After dropping the first set, Kean won their only set of the afternoon with a 31-29 victory. In that set, the Cougars traded points with neither side taking more than a five points advantage. Kean secured the final two points with a Smith kill and a Cardinal's attack error. Thornton and Micheaux combined for 10 kills in the victory.

Wesleyan posted a .163 hitting percentage, while Kean recorded a .133 percentage.

Match 2: Wesleyan (CT) 3, Kean 0
Smith totaled seven kills and five digs as the Cougars (5-8) were swept by the Cardinals (7-1) in straight sets. Morgan Hall finished with six kills and four digs while Anne Beckemeyer totaled five kills and five digs. Hangey handed out 22 assists, while Gaard collected 10 digs.

Wesleyan posted a .296 hitting percentage, while Kean tallied a .114 percentage.

Head Coach Don Perkins and the Cougars will return to action on Tuesday, Sept. 28th, hosting the Ospreys of Stockton University at 7:00 p.m.
