Late Run Propels Montclair State Pasts Men’s Basketball

MONTCLAIR, N.J. (1/19/22) – Jailen Jamison and Letrell West combined for 45 points as the Kean University men's basketball team dropped a New Jersey Athletic Conference contest to Montclair State University, 80-74 on Wednesday evening.

Greg Eck totaled 16 points for the Red Hawks who improve to 8-6 overall and 5-5 in the NJAC. Jamison finished with 24 points, six assists and three steals for the Cougars who fall to 10-5 overall and 5-5 in the NJAC.

Kean opened the game trading buckets with the Red Hawks for the first seven minutes. Kean maintained an 18-14 lead, before MSU used a 14-0 run to take a 28-18 lead with 7:31 remaining. That run helped
Montclair hold a 10-point advantage until the final two minutes when Kean closed the half with a 9-0 run to trail 40-37 at halftime. Jamison scored six of his 15 first half points during the run.

In the second half, Montclair held its largest lead of the game at 13 points with 8:16 remaining. Kean responded with a 14-4 run to cut MSU's advantage down to one point at 71-70 with 1:52 to play.

The Red Hawks slammed the door shut with a 9-3 run in the final 90 seconds.

West finished with 21 points and six rebounds, while Dorien DePina tallied seven points and seven rebounds.  

Head Coach David Turco and the Cougars will return to action on Saturday, Jan, 22nd, hosting the Profs of Rowan University at 1:00 p.m.
