Union, N.J. (1/22/22) – The Kean University women's basketball team rallied from an 18 point deficit to defeat Rowan University by the final of 68-64 on Saturday afternoon in NJAC action.
With the win, the Cougars are now tied with the Profs atop of the New Jersey Athletic Conference standings with identical 9-2 marks.
For the second straight game, both teams started off slow offensively. Rowan turned things around and pushed out to an 18 point lead (25-7) with 5:13 to go in the second quarter. A timeout turned things around for Kean as they ended the half on a 16-6 run to pull within six at the break. Shannon McCoy led the run with a burst of 11 points, including three treys.
The Cougars were finally able to chip away enough to take their first lead of the contest, since the first bucket of the game, with 3:29 to go in the fourth quarter. Kayla Anderson's two points from the charity stripe put KU on top, 57-56.
Rowan tied things up one more time with a free throw from Dakota Adams with two minutes on the clock. Stephanie LaGreca helped seal the win for Kean with a steal and fastbreak layup quickly off the inbound with under a minute to go for a 62-59 advantage. The Cougars added six more points from the free throw line down the stretch to hold on for the win.
McCoy led all players with 25 points while adding 10 rebounds for her sixth double-double of the season. Anderson finished with 15 points and nine rebounds while Brittany Graff had 13 points, six assists, four rebounds and three steals.
The Profs had four players finish in double-digits with two double-doubles (Grace Marshall-15 points, 12 rebounds & Adams-10 points, 13 rebounds).
Kean heads to the road next week and will face Rutgers-Newark on Wednesday.
