Newark, N.J. (1/26/22) – The Kean University women's basketball team used a dominating third quarter to power past host Rutgers-Newark, 69-42 on Wednesday night in NJAC action.
With the win the Cougars are now in sole possession of first place in the conference standings with a 10-2 mark.
Shannon McCoy led the Cougars with her seventh double-double of the season (18 points, 13 rebounds).
Kean held a slim 25-24 lead at the break, but turned things around with a 30 point third stanza. In addition, the Cougars held the Scarlet Raiders to just six points in the same frame. Brittany Graff started the second half with a fastbreak jumper and helped Kean with an 8-0 surge in the first two minutes. A few minutes of missed shots and turnovers sparked a three-point barrage as Kean rolled off six in a row to take control and a 23 point cushion. McCoy recorded the first three followed by one from Graff and two more from Sarah Olivero.
Graff finished the contest with 10 points, five rebounds and five steals while Shahd Badeer added 10 points and eight rebounds off the bench.
The Cougars are scheduled to face Ramapo College on Saturday.
