UNION, N.J. (1/25/22) – Duncan Beilke totaled nine kills, three aces, and three digs as the Kean University men's volleyball team opened the 2022 season with a 3-0 straight sets sweep of Hunter College on Tuesday evening.
Kevin Molina tallied six kills and six digs for the Cougars who improve to 1-0 overall.
Cooper Moran recorded six kills, 14 assists, and nine digs for the Hawks who fall to 0-1 overall.
In set one, Beilke and
Quincy Rooi combined for seven kills in the 25-19 victory. The Cougars held an early 7-3 advantage before Hunter rallied to even the set at 17-17. Kean closed with an 8-2 run that included two kills from Rooi.
In the middle set,
Maxwell Thompson and Beilke combined for eight kills in the 25-22 victory. After trailing 5-1 to open the set, Kean eventually evened everything up at 20-20. The Cougars closed with a 5-2 run that included three kills from Beilke.
In the final set, Molina recorded four kills on seven swings and no errors for the 25-23 victory. A back and forth affair saw the Hawks hold a 21-20 lead late in the set. The Cougars again closed another set with a 5-2 run to complete the sweep.
Thompson totaled six kills and three digs, while Rooi finished with five kills, six digs, and two block assists.
Zach Noll handed out 22 assists, while
Cris Naranjo collected 10 digs.
