CHESTER, Pa. (2/1/22) – Duncan Beilke recorded a career-high 18 kills and posted a .519 hitting percentage as the Kean University men's volleyball team posted a 3-1 victory over Widener University on Tuesday evening.
Quincy Rooi totaled nine kills, six digs, and four aces for the Cougars who improve to 2-0 overall. Ethan Cox and Josh Matchett each tallied seven kills apiece for the Pride who fall to 1-1 overall.
In set one, Beilke and
Kevin Molina combined for seven kills in the 25-23 victory. Despite being held to a .125 hitting percentage, Kean stayed within striking distance. The Cougars trailed 20-18, before closing with an 8-3 run, including back-to-back kills from Beilke and Molina.
After hitting .111 and falling 25-20 in set two, Kean bounced back with a 25-18 victory in set three. The Cougars posted a .370 hitting percentage with Beilke and Rooi combining for 11 kills. The set was deadlocked at 12-12, before Kean closed with a 13-6 run that saw three kills from Beilke.
Beilke added another four kills in the dominating 25-8 set four victory. The Cougars held Widener to a -.227 hitting percentage after opening the set on a 12-2 run.
Molina finished with eight digs and five kills, while
Ryan DiCandilo,
Zach Noll and
Luke Frankenfield each tallied two kills apiece. Noll handed out 25 assists, while
Cris Naranjo collected 10 digs.
