Men’s Basketball Remains Unbeaten with Victory over PSU-Harrisburg


UNION, N.J. (11/16/22) – Griffin Barker and Letrell West combined for 59 points as the Kean University men's basketball team remains unbeaten with an 85-77 victory over Penn State-Harrisburg in non-conference action on Wednesday.

Barker finished with 32 points, while West added 27 for the Cougars who improve to 4-0 overall. Chris Haynes totaled 18 points for the Nittany Lions who fall to 1-2 overall.

The first half featured hot shooting from both sides with Harrisburg and Kean posting at least 50% from the floor and downtown. Penn State opened on a 19-10 run, behind 11 points from Haynes. The Cougars responded with an 18-10 run to take their first lead of the game at 28-26 with 7:20 remaining. Barker scored 12 of his 22 first half points during the run.

Kean traded buckets to end the half as the Cougars held a 41-37 advantage at the break.

In the second half, West went to work scoring 20 points on 6-for-12 shooting from the floor, after notching only seven in the first half. The Cougars never trailed in the second stanza, but Harrisburg made things interesting.

Kean led by as much as nine early, before the Nittany Lions shaved the lead down to one at 58-57 with 11:30 remaining.  The Cougars responded with a 14-6 run to push their lead back to double-digits. Kean held at least a five-point advantage for the rest of the contest.

Jailen Jamison finished with 14 points, seven rebounds and five assists, while Corey Thelisme added six points and six rebounds. Heem Burno tallied 10 assists, five rebounds and two steals.

Head Coach David Turco and the Cougars will return to action on Saturday, Nov. 19th, hosting the Ravens of Rosemont College at 1:00 p.m.
